My name is George Horne. I am a 24 Year Army veteran in 2021 my wife of 21 years fell ill and after a 3 week stay in intensive care her body unfortunately gave up and she passed away.
This unfortunately increased the depression and anxiety that I was already suffering with. It got so bad that I ended up taking myself to A&E to get help as I was contemplating suicide.
I found out about StrongMen when the cricket club I’m secretary for decided to do a fundraiser and we chose strongmen as our beneficiary. We hosted a race night which Efrem attended and we raised £1400 on the night with £1000 going to StrongMen.
As I researched the charity I realised that I fitted into the remit of the organisation. Following the man2man telephone and the help and support of Graham my mental health increased massively.
In September I did the 7 hr drive up to Snowdonia to make the climb. Setting up my tepee which got some funny looks as I pitched it.

With apprehension I set off thinking I would struggle despite having been out of the army 4 years. Turns out nothing to worry about when your surrounded by a bunch of men going through similar struggles. Summiting in surprisingly good weather conditions.
The zipline on the Sunday was an amazing experience. I now look forward to doing the training to volunteer with the charity and help others in the same boat.
